Gardening with Habitat Connections
February 2 - February 4$50
We’re delighted to partner with the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont to offer an educator workshop February 2-4, 2018. We will target motivated teachers in the southeast region, with a special emphasis on teachers in Tennessee.
We will practice teaching skills, participate in powerful citizen science projects, engage in discussion, and brainstorm methods for successful implementation, all while living and learning inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The workshop will focus on inspiring teachers to observe and document birds and their behavior with their students. Birds are readily observable wildlife for most schools, and teaching students to notice and appreciate their beauty and complexity can improve their interest in learning and their understanding of and investment in scientific investigation.
Educators will leave this workshop armed with tools, curriculum resources, bird feeders, organic fertilizer to support school gardens, and inspiration to spend more time learning outside alongside their students.
Cost: $50 per teacher. Space is limited. A maximum of three teachers per school may register. Classroom teachers (5th grade through 12th grade) living in the southeast region are encouraged to register.
