In my ESL class composed of students from various backgrounds and learning styles, we are studying the kinds of birds that live in our suburban habitat. More specifically, my bilingual students who hear through the use of a cochlear implant, love to learn English by creating projects. One student brought in natural materials to make a bird feeder. He used a large pine cone, peanut butter, and bird seed to create his feeder. After taking it outside, the students began to watch various types of birds come to investigate his pine cone feeder. As a result the students have begun to be more interested in the kinds of birds that live in our area.
