Rocky Branch Elementary School has built two gardens at our school. Each garden was built by the students. The students plant and maintain the gardens. The vegetable gardens at our school are used to provide extra food to needy families within our school community. As one of our project based learning classes last year, we built an outdoor classroom to include a pollinator garden. The students planted plants that were native to Georgia. The garden includes host and nectar plants for many pollinators of Georgia. The outdoor classroom also has bird feeders and bird houses to help aid our pollinator garden. The students are able to use our pollinator garden to learn about life cycles, plants, birds, pollinators, soil, composting, observations, and much more. We would like to expand our habitat this year to be able to provide a better habitat for wildlife and native plants of Georgia. We have a wetland area on our school property that needs some attention. This area could become a great teaching and learning area for our students at Rocky Branch. Our property is shared with our county high school. We would love to work together to make this area a wonderful habitat for native plants and animals of Georgia. The students at North Oconee High School and the students at Rocky Branch Elementary School could work together on a Service Project that would improve our wooded/wetland habitat.
