Improving our school courtyard for human and animal use.

Habitat Helpers

Renewing the school courtyard

Our environmental science class has started a project to make our courtyard useable for students and wildlife. We started last spring by putting in a garden and some native plants. During summer school our art students made some animal totem sculptures to put out in the courtyard and some ceramic mushrooms to place around the trees. We currently our planning on improving the deck area with building round picnic tables of reclaimed wood. We have placed bird and hummingbird feeders in the area and are planning on building some new bird and animal houses. We also are planning on making a small outdoor classroom area with bench seating and potentially a small pond/water feature. We hope to improve the wildlife that visits the area and make it so students and teachers alike want to spend time in the area.
