Description

I wish I could submit more than five photos! These pictures hardly express the love, care, and creativity that went into creating this garden, which was completed on April 22. My ninth grade English students used literary quotes from the readings we studied throughout the year to create garden art! We took the overgrown and neglected grotto behind my classroom and transformed the space into something colorful, special, and inviting. There are over thirty different flowers and plants in our garden, all paired with literary quotes. The students worked in groups of 2-3 to research their selected flower, plant, seed, or bulb, and then chose a corresponding quote, which had to be from an author we’d studied and had to be figuratively and symbolically represented within the space. We have three flower beds that we cleaned out, mulched, and filled with plant life. Students also used containers to express their creativity, including wheelbarrows, chandeliers, sinks, and shoes. The garden was and is an instant hit with the rest of the school! We offer tours daily. Enjoy! Please let me know if you’d like additional info or photos. Thanks!

Thank you so much for sharing. The garden and art are inspiring and so lovely. Now I’m hoping to do a similar project with my students during the next school year. Thanks again!
