Four classrooms, 3 Kindergarten and a 1st grade, at C.P. Elementary School, spend much of a morning in a nearby section of forest each week. Children have the opportunity to observe change over time in a natural setting, engage in environmental stewardship by advocating for its trees (a rare and thriving American Chestnut tree was discovered by kids and it subsequently won Burlington’s Awesome Tree Contest this year), and play in the wilderness. This work is documented and shared via classroom blogs and a twitter account.
